Hi, and welcome to my blog! My name is Melina, and I’m currently studying for a BSc in Psychology at the University of Liverpool. Psychology has always fascinated me, and my long-term goal is to become a Clinical Psychologist, supporting individuals in navigating challenges and improving their well-being.
Professional Experience
- Swim Coordinator at David Lloyd Clubs (August 2025 – present)
After being quite recently promoted to this role, I manage and oversee the swimming program with almost 400 swimmers enrolled. I ensure that lessons run smoothly and meet the highest standards. I liaise closely with my team of swimming coaches to provide guidance and support, fostering a collaborative work environment. Beyond day-today operations, I organise events that engage members and promote celebrating the swimmers achievement’s. A key part of my role involves maintaining outstanding communication with parents, keeping them informed of progress and building rapports through transparency. This position has strengthened my leadership, organisational skills, and interpersonal skills – qualities that are equally vital in psychology and clinical practice.
- Work experience in Dementia Care
During my time working in dementia care, I supported residents in their daily routines and engaged with them in meaningful activities. This experience gave me valuable insight into the challenges faced by individuals living with dementia and their families. I learned the importance of empathy, patience, and clear communication in care settings, and I witness first-hand how psychological principles can improve quality of life. This role reinforced my commitment to pursuing a career in clinical psychology, where compassion and evidence-based practice go hand in hand.
Volunteering
I volunteer every week at a youth club in the Wirral, helping children from lower socio-economic backgrounds. This role allows me to contribute to my community, provide mentorship and encourage young people to believe in their potential.
Interests & Hobbies
- Travel
I love exploring new places and immersing myself in different cultures. Travel gives me the opportunity to broaden my perspective, meet people from diverse backgrounds, and appreciate the variety of human experiences – something that closely links to my interest in psychology. Whether it’s discovering hidden gems in the UK or venturing abroad, each trip fills me with joy and is something I am very fortunate to be able to do.
- Swimming
This sport is a personal passion and a professional pursuit. Beyond coordinating lessons at David Lloyd Clubs, I enjoy the meditative rhythm of swimming as a way to stay active and clear my mind. It has taught me discipline and the importance of setting goals – qualities I carry into my academic and professional life.
- Horse Riding
Growing up with horses has been such a wonderful privilege, being in nature is truly my happy place and when on horseback there a sense of freedom which I can’t quite articulate. For me, riding has always been for pleasure, despite a couple of local shows and amateur cross-country courses. I look forward to being able to pursue this endeavour again after graduation.
Looking Ahead
My journey is driven by curiosity, compassion, and a desire to make a difference. Whether through my studies, professional roles, or volunteering, I am committed to building a career that supports others and promotes mental health.
